Thubnderbolt Expansion card

Hello everybody,

 

I wanted to buy a PCI-Express Thunderbolt expansion card, but the closest thing I found was this:

It has USB-C, which I think is Thunderbolt compatible, I have no clue really.

 

Are there any real Thunderbolt Epxansion cards, and is this one a scam?

USB-C is just a connector, it isn't always Thunderbolt. For example, my Nexus 6p has a USB-C port, it is not a thunderbolt connector. Right now USB-C is the most popular Thunderbolt connector because it's much faster and has a higher bandwidth than everything else. Since the ebay one doesn't say it is a thunderbolt connector I would assume that the USB-C is not. Something like this is more expensive but should work:

Fairly sure only works on Asus Boards that support it.

USB-C is just another type of thunderbolt 3.

Well it says it works on the X99-A chipset, which is what my motherboard has, even if it's from MSI.

It only works on asus boards.

 

You woud need the msi version, if it exists.

Well thunderbolt can be adapted to pretty much anything, as far as I know. And my PC does not have a USB-C port, which is the future of ports c:

You can get usb type c easily or just adapt to it.

 

no reason to get it until you have a use. For most users its useless.

Asrock has a Thunderbolt PCIe thing and it doesn't seem like it is locked down to only Asrock boards. If you can find one where you are, then you might be in luck:

There are also some from HP but I'm not sure if they are locked down. I imagine that they aren't tho

 

FYI: If you find any ones, they will probably be Thunderbolt 2. Thunderbolt 3 is too new for there to be PCIe cards. Intel does have a controller for it but it does not seem that anyone has implemented it into a PCIe card. I think that most manufacturers are focusing Thunderbolt 3 as a laptop technology so desktop users are probably going to be left out for a bit.
