I just got a corsair strafe keyboard. I couldn't afford the RGB version and my parents refused to do a loan where I could pay off what I didn't have until it was fully payed for. That left me thinking, could I mod my strafe for RGB backlighting instead of red? I am away from home right now but I think the red might contrast well with my blue setup but I want to know if I can mod mine for RGB because I think blue with White WASD keys would look great. How would I do it? also, how would I swap out the switches to MX blue?

Are you good at soldering?

Disassemble the keyboard, and see if you can find a place that sells just the keyswitches. You'll have to desolder all of the current switches and resolder the new ones. RGB support is a whole other story. The boards don't actually support RGB, and the board design for each variant is different.

It would involve de-soldering every switch on the board and replacing them with MX Blue RGB compatible switches (they're different from single colour I believe), adding in an RGB controller and additional wiring and making some custom firmware to allow for keyboard shortcuts to control the RGB LEDs, or implementing an external controller of some sort.

Basically, it's possible, yes. But for all of the time, effort and part costs it will take, you'd be able to afford an RGB Strafe by then by doing odd jobs. Not to mention it would be very difficult.

I am pretty decent at soldering and love it. However, I don't want to ruin it. I just need to wait until I get home and if it doesn't contrast well with my Black/Blue Setup, I will return it and save a little more for the RGB version with MX blue.

Black blue why not make it blue and red

Exactly. I hope it looks good. Worst case, I can return the strafe and save a little extra for the RGB one or a Corsair k70 RGB

k65 rgb is cheaper

I want the number pad but I probably don't need one so I would probably get the K65 RGB. Depends on how much I save up.

I have k65 rapidfire rgb and I really dont need the keypad it kinda helps to game as it takes less space so I can have a large mouse mat

Ok. I will most likely stick with my strafe though if it looks good with my blue setup.
