Safe to se 4-pin to 8-pin adapter for mb power?

I recently bought a new CPU and motherboard, not realizing the power cable is different. My old motherboard required a 4-pin connector, but the new one an 8-pin, and my PSU only has one 4-pin and a 6-pin powering my GPU. And 2 molexes i believe, not too sure. I read online that a 4-pin and 8-pin both output 12v, and so says the mark next to the plug (ATX_12V). Is it safe to use an 4- to 8-pin adapter in this case?

Thanks in advantage.
