Need Help Picking Graphics Card

Hello everyone,

I have decided to want to buy the gtx 1060, 

I have one question, What is the difference if the graphics card has 3gb or 6gb?????

I also have two monitors if that has any relevance.

Note that I also just bought the htc vive

6GB will allow you to have more stuff loaded in the GPU which pretty much it'll provide you the ability to play in a higher resolution among other things, if you want to try vive you'll really want this extra space to render all the 360º view you'll have.

You'll want 6gb GTX 1060, or 8gb RX480 for 1920x1080p VR.

The 480 is starting be equal with 1060 in dx11 and pulls ahead in dx12, i wouldnt be surprised if in a few more driver updates the 480 even beats the 1060 in dx11.

I would get GTX 1060 6GB.

I would vote the 480 4gb over a 1060 3gb, and 1060 6gb over a 480 8gb. That's mostly because I purchase based on how parts perform right now, not how they might perform in the future.

If you want a good VR experience I would seriously consider moving up to the 1070. The 1060 is called VR ready but its pretty marginal to be honest.

The 3GB is actually a slower GPU too so it's nowhere near as good.

A good in-between card would be a 4GB RX 480 - It's better than a 1060 3GB Gimp Edition, just trails or head to head with the 6GB, and costs $230

They're from the Zotac Mini review, from 16 Nov. You'd be insane to call that outdated.

I'd check the most recent benchmarks; the Hardware Canucks RX 480 vs. GTX 1060 holiday update video. They prove what many of us are saying; that the RX 480 roughly ties the GTX 1060 in DX11 games and outright destroys it in DX12.

Yeah I would grab the Sapphire for people on a budget but the more powerful PCB and cooling on the Gaming X will result in better overclocks.

 

Perhaps only worth it for people who OC hardcore then.

For what is worth nothing stops nVidia from improving their drivers especially when the 1080ti comes out where the 1060 might pick up the lead again, in raw performance it does have a little more juice, but like I always say in the end of the day the difference between the rx480 and gtx 1060 won't cause you to lose any sleep, go with the cheapest if you're in "short" budget which might usually be the RX480 especially in countries that has to import both.

If you got enough money to spend though get the GTX 1070.
