wd black 2tb

jackchipm

I am planing to buy a wd black 2tb for my computer. This will not be my main drive it will only be my game drive as I have an ssd for my os. For backups I have a wd blue 6tb that is only for backups. You can buy the wd black 2tb on newegg for $115. So my question is should I but the wd black or should I save some money and just buy a wd blue?

Never never ever buy a WD black. They will shake your whole system, and the drive itself will rattle uncontrollably whenever you're doing anything on your computer. It could be heard even when I was blasting music through my headphones.

Always WD blue, or SSD.

odd

I have owned the first-gen WD Black 500gb drive

as well as the newer gen 1TB model, havent had any issues with noise or rattling.

You can look videos up on youtube, or even look through amazon reviews. I guess you just got a good one, but I'm sure as hell never touching a black again.

although i will say, for your use-case

a WD Blue will perform the same for games

i believe the only real difference between the Black and Blue is the warranty

I would go external with a 5TB seagate. It is a shingled drive so it is slower but it costs the same as your 2tb as you described: https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-Desktop-External-STEB5000100/dp/B00TKFEEBW/ref=pd_lpo_147_bs_t_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=7JXB17TGCHFXHFBSQAJG . But if you want internal you can always go with your first option. It isn't a bad choice.

If you have 6TB of WD anything already, then I don't understand why you would buy another HDD. Unless you need more storage, I don't think WD blue vs WD black read and write speeds are worth buying a whole new hdd. Although, I have a 2TB WD black that I paid $119.99 for and I think it is totally worth it. I'd see my self buying a third ssd before I buy a second hdd, but that's just me.

not in my experience. I've never heard anything loud from my 2tb wd black. I will say that wd blue does have slightly better reviews, though. 1TB wd black has better reviews than the 2TB wd black
