I try to keep up with news about tech and what no, but between school, having a girlfriend and work its kinda hard. I went to download minecraft from the Mojang website and it told me I got a free copy of the windows 10 edition. I thought to myself "this one is newer and could be better." I looked online and saw that the OG one was the one people said to download. The I remembered all that talk about how bad the windows store is or something like that so I took a look for myself and saw a bunch of games on there I wanted for a really cheap price. I thought then "why all the hate?"

So, I'm asking you all, what was the hate for? Am I remembering this correctly? What was the problem and has it been fixed since then?

Weird settings, Windowed Mode only, hard framerate cap, just to name a few

is all of this still an issue? Like the Halo Spartan Assult games on iOS i really liked and one of them is .99 cents and the other is like $2. I am seeing more that I like. If I dont need to get games from here then I won't

The fallout of Windows Live, some performance issues. For instance Forza Horizon has been said to have a few performance issues for unknown reasons. (I believe Barnacules Nerdgasm on youtube mentioned that. He has dual Xeons and dual Titan X Pascals. Cult of Mush may have said the same about Forza horizon, quantum break, and maybe even Gears of War 4.) also people don't like installing tons of launchers. Steam everyone was fine with. All the games in one place. Tons of huge sales. Then you need to install Origin for Battlefield. Then Uplay for Ubisoft games, and now you have to use the Xbox App to play Microsoft games... Not to mention the Microsoft store is a bit confusing IMO. I haven't really browsed it. There's only like 10 games (not even) by Microsoft and 2 of them are free (Minecraft if you own it, and Halo Forge Mode.)

it's not bad, but it can be a lot better. the more glaring issues have been mentioned already. and in addition to the glaring issues... managing your games... it is nothing like Steam or Uplay or Origin. makes it a pain in the ass

forza horizon 3 has gotten a lot better since it first came out. it took a million patches to reach its current state though and sadly it's still a mixed bag.

Forza 6 Apex (a heavily neutered forza 6) is available for free

All my Microsoft games are only in the Xbox app. Perhaps I could make start and desktop shortcuts which is probably what you are pointing to.
I don't know about Gears of War 4, but most games I have heard having problems with. I don't have them so I only noted people that have mentioned Microsoft games having problems.

My information is a bit dated it seems. Something Gabe Newell once said was something along the lines of "If you release a game late, you'll be hated for a little while. Release a game incomplete and people will remember if forever."

To apply that, No Man's sky seems to be heated, and I have heard absolutely nothing about the Forza games on PC (There was a little noted in the past but it all died out.) so it could be normal half-life of a game, or that people stopped caring when it had minor problems on release.

I will say Microsoft HAS been making their games better optimized. Comparing Gears of war 1-3 collection on PC to Gears of War 4, there was huge improvements.
They are doing quite well, and I want them to release awesome games, but they're also competing with sales, and people that already release polished games. Buggy on release 60 dollar games don't seem to fly too well.

(Unless you're Bethesda. I won't buy another Bethesda game again though after Fallout 4, but that's another discussion. To keep it short, grindy copy paste quests, no depth, no connection to the world, limiting action... in a RPG.)

I'm trying to project and speculate reasons to why some may not like Microsoft games, with hints of why I don't buy Microsoft games on PC, so sorry if it sounds like I'm hating on Microsoft.

Yea, I make shortcuts on my taskbar. You can also launch them from the start menu.

I use steam. I have Uplay games, but I never open Uplay. Unless it's in my steam library I don't really look at it. I can add non steam games and launch them that way. However I just stick with what is in my library. I uninstall and re-install games fairly often, so keeping a uplay game installed and added would eat up HDD space and drive me crazy. I like having 500~GB free space on my C:/ Drive.

I've slowly stopped caring about the various patches. Forza horizon 3 is not an early access game, nor are we testing a beta or alpha.. it is a full-price AAA game. not sure why anyone should constantly be reminded that performance will get better in the future when it should have at least been ironed out long ago. or it's simply because PC gamers are just used to seeing questionable performance in AAA titles all the time, and we do, more or less. luckily seeing how versatile PC is we can just tinker away and try to fix it. but you can't really do that with horizon 3 so...

ya Gears of war 4 looks very promising. it is thanks to Coalition games studio who actually did give a damn about making it look amazing while being very optimized on PC. I am surprised the game still isn't used in tech hardware reviewing list of benchmark-able games as of late (coupled that with DOOM), seeing that GoW 4 has a shockingly extensive benchmarking tool in place. probably because it is a UWP title..

That was one of my main points. 60 dollars for a multi large figure company to release a shoddy performing game (Sometimes incomplete if we want to throw in Halo 5.. the game that ruined my childhood. Halo 4 if we want to get into short campaigns. (Now I am just bashing Microsoft. Sorry.))

That may be another point. In halo forge mode there are only so many options for customization. (Not to mention The lack of a quit game BUTTON!) I must say my i5 and R9 390 shouldn't be running at 30s and 40s FPS ranges with lag spikes.

I feel Doom really should be excluded from hardware benchmarks because it is so well optimized someone showed me it running on a Pentium 4 with a 970. It's like... Have a graphics card that existed, and a CPU made in the last 10 years and you're fine.

Hey, uhm im really into technology and how everything works, but I don't know the more advanced side of it. I know what goes where and kinda what some components do. But I really want to learn about it all, and be able to know what is causing a problem in my pc, or what part is best and how instead of just looking at benchmarks. So if someone could like give me the basics im 14 so I'm not really experienced but I would really like to learn about this.

not the right place to comment this, lol. And there are no set "basics." You just get acquainted with problems you have and hear about and then extrapolate from there.

Sorry, I just went to general discussions and clicked on the picture and it put me here. If it's not obvious im new to fourms

People dislike the fact that it requires Windows 10.

It doesn't have Vsync support,

Having said that, I've played both the Windows 10 Edition of Minecraft as well as the OG version. If you're not huge into modding then the Windows 10 Edition is better. The performance from DirectX 11 is undoubtedly better than the Java version's LWJGL (OpenGL derivative for Java).

if you need mods then Java minecraft is the way to go. But Mojang plans to retire the Java version anyways in the future, so you may was well get familiar with the Windows 10 Edition.
