Do I REALLY have to buy a punchdown tool?

Need to?  No.  You can probably improvise something.

Want to?  Yes.  The right tool makes this job so much more easy.

You will also want a line tester to check your work.  Unless you enjoy pulling your hair out in clumps.

So find an inexpensive kit that has everything.  Like this

https://www.amazon.com/UbiGear-Crimper-Connector-Network-Crimper315/dp/B008UY5WL0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1482858008&sr=8-1&keywords=ethernet+cable+kit

It will last about forever and more than pay for itself once you make a few patch cables.

I'm installing CAT5e and I need a punchdown tool for the keystone jack. My only option is to buy the punchdown tool, and either keep a tool I will more than likely never use again or return it and feel guilty for a few days (It's like people who buy a gigantic TV for the Superbowl and then return it later). Do I have any alternatives to this like using a makeshift tool to punch them down?
