You didn't put cooler on it as it should be. Do that step once again.

I already tried it twice

For boxing day my uncle gave me a motherboard with RAM, a cpu and a video card pre-installed. I ran it that day with my brothers power supply and it worked fine at normal temps (50°C). Today i bought the same one that my brother has and now the cpu runs at 100°c at idle

The specs:

Cpu : i7 930

Cpu cooler : Stock intel cooler

Ram : 16 gigabytes of ddr3

Power supply : Corsair vs450

Reseat the cooler it probable came loose, make sure the fan is connected and spinning too.  You'll need some new thermal paste.

Did you use thermal paste?

When you bought/got that CPU ... did you find any marks on it like it would be opened somehow?

I can't find any other explanation for 90°C at idle.

And when you removed your CPU cooler, was thermal paste spreaded even on the CPU? Just trying to figure out if that CPU cooler was directly touching the CPU or is there some gap for some weird reason.

There isn't any other. It has to be cooler.

@uneedsomemilk, are you seeing 90C in Windows? This really doesn't matter, just making sure. If you have some extra money, pick aftermarket cooler or borrow another cooler.

Well there is another possible explanation ... faulty sesnor detecting temperature wrong.

Or he could be reading 90°F instead of Celsius.

But I'm pretty sure the cooler wasn't mounted as it should be. Even if fan on that cooler wouldn't be turning, temps wouldn't get that high. It's like there isn't any cooler on CPU lol.

How's the spread on the thermal paste?

Are the motherboard settings set to default?

the application i use says 100 degrees celsius. Well if it was the sensor i don't know why then the graphics card and the cpu overheats

i see 100C in speccy. i'm going to try that when i muster up enough money and do a cooler master seidon for the cpu cooler

Speccy should be reliable. Does it show same-ish temp in BIOS? If its faulty sensor, you could test it by setting auto-shutdown and/or overheat warnings to something they don't normally reach under idle. Like 70C.

GPU temps would be with another sensor and have their own "BIOS" aka firmware to control auto-shutdown (crash).

i dont know how to see temps in this bios, and the gpu is old. Like when 512mb was the best

If temp isn't shown on main screen, its under PC Health or something like that. And my point on GPU stands. It has own sensors which aren't in any relation to mobo/CPU sensors.
