Hello,

The graphics card in my gaming laptop is on it's last legs so I am looking to build a new gaming PC as a replacement. I am looking for build ideas and advice. I have never built a PC before so you can consider me to be a noob at all this.

I use my PC only to game and stream tv/movies. Types of load/games examples are: War thunder, total war games, unturned, Civ6.

Not cash strapped but I want the money spent to improve the gaming experience. Thinking about setting the budget around $1000 because some of the $1000 builds look pretty good, (16gb ram, ssd) but could spend up to $1400 for a good reason. If the linustechtips community has build ideas I would love to hear them and could make those ideas a reality.

Included a 1440p ultrawide monitor and a GTX 1070, along with one of the best membrane keyboard/mouse bundles on the market right now. This keyboard is supposed to feel distinctly tactile despite its like of mechanical keyswitches. I also included a Windows 10 OEM key. You can't do better than this at $1400.

I notice @deXxterlab97 included a headset in his build, but if you've been gaming on your laptop, I think it's a safe assumption that you have a pair of headphones already.

An ultrawide monitor - especially one this large - results in a more visually immersive experience. Furthermore, with a resolution of 3440x1440 pixels, it will still be incredibly sharp. Among other things, the ultrawide experience is highly recommended by @LinusTech himself.

I like the idea of the 34" ultra wide monitor.

1. I think the two biggest parts I am stuck on is if I should wait for AMD's new ZEN lineup to come out in a few months? Maybe get a better deal on the CPU, and see how things change up

2. If I should get the 1060 gtx video card or the R9 fury now that the R9 fury is selling for 260. https://pcpartpicker.com/product/M2mxFT/sapphire-video-card-112470340g

What does everyone think? I believe most of the build ideas had the 1060.

  1. Good idea. The new Vega card might also launch around that time.
  2. The 1070 beats the Fury. I put an overclocked 1070 in the build I posted.

1. waiting will be hard but it really could be worth it. Hard to say because the deal on the Fury is only for the next 2 days so tempted to jump at a sure deal.

2. True, I guess I missed that. But the 1070 costs $100 more so does the 1070s extra performance worth an extra $100
