Will a better router fix ping spikes/packet loss when other devices streaming videos?

a2242364

If I buy a new router, from dlink dir 615 to TP-Link AC1750, will this fix my lag? Or is it strictly an ISP issue? I'm getting 30 download 5 upload.

I just upgraded to this router this month. It has been a HUGE upgrade over my old Net Gear. Range and connection has improved. I am no longer getting booted off the net when I download a ton of media or a Steam game.

Speed is the same, but being able to use the net outside of my home is nice.

mostly no, you have quite low speeds to begin with and a new router won't help you with that in any sort of way

what a new router will help you is with is the number of active and half opened connections - old routers don't deal very well with many conenctions

should you buy a new router ... I'd say no

you 1st need to determine if packet loss is router's fault

if that were true you wouldn't need to ask here.

if you had concluded that the router was at fault then your question would have been answered.
