Which would be better for an upgrade from a X4 750k?

860k

870k

880k

It's probably a stupid question.

Im also planing to overclock in the future.

I know that Intel is better, but im not planning to buy a new motherboard (or Ram).

Well, the 880k is the best of the three...

Which would last longer? Is there a way to tell?

Relatively speaking they'll all have the same lifespan.  Just a small clock speed difference between those models.  It's different architectures that really make a big difference in your CPUs relative speed and lifespan.

You'd honestly be better off getting a better cooler for your 750k and overclocking to get more life out of your FM2+.  It would probably be just as fast as a modestly overclocked 860k.

They're all based on steamroller... so its not like they're any different chips across the board...

They're all 95 watt parts, offering the same number of cores, cache, memory controller, steppings... like quite literally they're ALL the same exact CPU.  All you're paying for is binning. The 880K is ALWAYS going to be the better chip of the 3, quite literally in every single way.

88o is faster but what makes it better?

It being faster IS what makes it better. Unless you want the slowest cpu possible

My rig:
CPU: i5 4690k 24/7 @4.4ghz (1.165v) Max 4.7ghz (1.325v) COOLER: NZXT Kraken X61 MOBO: Asus Z97-A   RAM: 16GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical   GPU: EVGA GTX 970 SSC   PSU: EVGA GS 650W   CASE: NZXT Phantom 530 HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1TB + WD Black 2TB

Thank you all, i think i will just save up and possibly wait to see if the ZEN will be good

That's the best advice I can give.

I own a 860k overclocked to 4ghz, but it runs like crap.

Bf1 won't hit 60fps, Bf4 doesn't either.

GTA V lags behind as well.

Actually, almost any modern game fails to hit 60fps. CPU gets stressed to a 100% and GPU is basically sleeping.

Wait for ZEN, if ZEN is crap wait for Kaby Lake. The i3's are already having some serious musclepower, and Kaby Lake might get unlocked i3's. Maybe they're worth it.
