RAM compatibility

Hey Folks,

 

Not to sound / look like a total newb, but does MSI have a RAM compatibility checker for their Motherboards?

 

Trying to find RAM for the Z170-A Pro board

You can buy pretty much any RAM, but if you go to their website and find the motherboard you have, look under compatibility. You aren't likely to see every RAM but the ones that they have tested for the board.

Any DDR4 RAM would work. No need to worry much.

But if you want to be sure check this, they do not included everything btw

You'll find the memory speeds that are supported in the left bar:

Though note that these aren't always correct as BIOS updates sometimes introduce new speeds that are supported.

However, supported RAM speeds doesn't mean they're compatible 100% of the times as there are plenty of factors taking place.

 

But as stated above you can buy any speed for RAM (as long as you match DDR3/DDR4 with the CPU and mobo) as it will automatically be set to the frequency supported by the CPU. It's not until you enable XMP or manually mimic the settings that you get the advertised speeds.

as everyone said any ram should work, just make sure you dont mix and match ram with different speeds.

Yea, that much I knew, but as far as manufacturers and if some MoBos didn't accept certain speeds or makers I had no clue. Thanks Maybach!

Z170-A supports up to 3000MHz RAM if I recall correctly. Getting faster RAM is a worthwhile investment if the price is only a few dollars difference.
