That would be a reference Radeon RX 480, which is a blower style card. It's not exactly ideal for anything other than SFF builds since an aftermarket variant would likely be cooler and produce less noise.

 

And as for price, you can virtually get the same card off Newegg for $200 after rebate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?sdtid=9579572

 

Alternatively, you could wait until an aftermarket version goes on sale (which is a pretty frequent occurrence).

That's a reference card and VisionTek in particular has horrible packaging. I wouldn't buy it if it was $1. Look for a non reference cooler that isn't Gigabyte.

Never buy a reference AMD card for that matter, except for the ones like the fury where they came with that radiator - that's fine.

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

 

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

 

How I plan my builds -

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

I would definitely pay that additional cost. The current generation of ASUS Strix cards from both AMD and Nvidia are immensely better than the last generation. Beefy coolers and great build quality from ASUS, as usual.

 

XFX does have better customer support though, in case something goes wrong.

GTR is the best 480, but not at $30 more. Just get the strix.
