They are both cat5e so i have no idea whats wrong

Do you have a line tester? Have you checked what speed the laptop is linking at? This looks to me like in one location your cable is damaged and linking at 100Mb

im having a problem with my network that i have no idea what is going on. the problem is that i have 1Gbps fiber and i know i wont get the full 1Gb but it seems every time i try to sometimes i try to download something i get like 700-800Mbps but some times it caps at 90-100Mbps i just dont know what is going on.

When you get a local download speed that high, your downloads get limited not by you or your ISP, but by how fast the server can upload, and how congested the backbone internet links between you and the server are.

Make sure your router and NIC are capable of gigabit. Many routers hit a CPU limit when you do routing at such high speeds, which doesn't apply to local transfers that are only switched, not routed. Cheaper NICs on computers, such as anything made by Realtek, can't quite make it to a full gigabit. Intel NICs are good, as are a lot of brands that focus on server applications primarily. I'm not sure about Killer NICs.

Do speedtests with dslreports.com/speedtest, which uses multiple connections, not just one. Check with your ISP if there is a specific server on speedtest.net or other sites that they know is capable of showing the full gigabit speed.

First of all, if you have one, try a different cable on the port that seems to be slowed down. If you don't have one, then maybe borrow the one from the other port to test.. if the port is now running faster how it should be, then it was a faulty cable... if it's not working faster, then my guess would be the internal cable has broken somewhere, but depends on what you have between those points, for instance if you have a switch/homeplugs etc then that could be the cause of the problem, test first how I said above and then get back to us with the results please.

It seems you are correct. one side of my cable is not connected properly because one of my stupid roommate snapped the little clip off the head leaving it loose. i just tape the end to the port that seems to do the job.

thanks a lot for this and i will defiantly wont steal someones cable.
