I just built my new pc and everything works but my gpu isnt being detected so i cant install any drivers. but the thing is i am getting video out of it. the display looks like an old 1995 pc but after a few minutes it will flicker and go into 1080p but its still not detected. i cant seam to find where im meant to find it in the bois and im not sure if people mean the mo/bo bios. im using a krait x3 gaming z170 board with a 6600k. should i just make a fresh install of windows. also i have a second hdd and its detected in the bois but i cant find it in folders. how do i make it visible so i can move all my stuff onto it and reinstall windows or can i reinstall windows without deleting everything on my old hdd.

Im not to sure what to do and this is my first pc build ever. everything else works fine even fairly intensive games like COD IW on max settings. I have a gtx 1070 armor oc from msi btw. Thanks for any help and input

edit: it reverts to 1200x800 resolution every time it turns on. that explains the 1995 looking display.

i have also formatted the hdd now aswell

Could be dead GPU, And is the HDD formatted correctly?

EDIT: Oh yea also, Make sure there's no dust in the PCIe slot that has the gpu

definitely not dust in the pci-e slot and its not a dead gpu because im getting video from it and i have not formatted the hdd

Have you pushed it into the PCI slot fully? Also, is it enabled in Device Manager?

The display you're getting is probably from the onboard GPU.

no its defiantly from the gpu and not the igpu because the motherboard isnt plugged into the monitor. ive just desided to do a fresh install of windows and just copy my steam library and hope it works then.

If it was out of the warranty i would have flashed the bios of the gpu .

jumpy cables (either bad or not properly secured ) ?

have u tested on another board or display  ?

whats ur current Psu ?

if u are free from software issues then the card is definitely bad

( although u are getting an output but the card doesnt have to be dead to be bad  )
