I need help

I have a pair of old Bose companion speakers and they are really acting up. they won't plug securely into my rear audio connections with my Asus hero mobo. And when I do have them in well enough they staticy and the left is much quieter than the right. I know I have the right connector and cable and I have the drivers installed so what could be the problem?
