My first and last tip would be to wait for AMD Zen prices to be revealed. I almost always post a build, but at this point, I think waiting is the best anyone can do.

@Cron70- I posted the former reply in a rush, and didn't read that you were new to custom PC building. First of all, welcome to the forum. You can get users' attention by tagging them like I did with '@' or by quoting them with the arrow icon under their response. If a quote is too long, remove everything but the relevant text.

Video editing is a very resource-intensive task. It's hard on the CPU, and the more powerful your CPU is, the better your computer will perform when it comes to video editing. The CPU is not as essential as the GPU in most games, but games also depend the CPU having some amount of power, and do benefit from improved CPUs.

There are two major players when it comes to CPUs- they are Intel and AMD. These two companies used to be competitive, but over the last six years, AMD has lapsed and has been very far behind Intel.

This has allowed Intel to basically rule the market, and only roll out minimal improvements every year- and they are coming close to stagnation. They have charged obscene prices on their enthusiast chips (six, eight, and ten-core Core i7 CPUs), simply because they have a monopoly over the CPU market and no competition in high-end CPUs.

However, Zen could be what changes that. At a recent AMD event, an eight-core Zen CPU was shown to be a fair bit faster than a $1100 eight-core Intel equivalent. The lower AMD prices this CPU, the greater the resulting upset will be. AMD is known to completely shift the balance of power by providing cheaper, faster alternative products. They did this to Nvidia years ago when they launched the R9 290x, which was cheaper and faster than NVidia's flagship GTX 780, and even caught up to the 780 Ti. This forced NVidia to cut prices.

If AMD does this with their Zen CPUs, not only will much more powerful processors be available at much cheaper prices, but Intel will have to drastically lower their own prices to stay competitive, which means an even wider selection of powerful CPUs will be available on the cheap.

Well, that about sums up the importance of Zen, and why you should hold off until we know what these things will cost.
