Good camera?

My dad always uses his phone to record himself playing the trumpet, I was wondering if there was a fairly inexpensive (preferably under 100) camera/audio recorder that would be great for this that connects through his phone and he can see all the recordings on the phone.

Oh well right now he has a Windows but he is gonna take my droid turbo if I upgrade to the s7 (likely)

Sony (and I think some other companies) makes a lens camera that uses a phone as the LCD screen for composing the scene and controlling the camera.  They are not priced sub $100.  They are also mainly for photography, not video.

 

Your other option is to get a nice cheap camcorder.  You can find some for under $200.

 

Thirdly he can buy the new Zoom Q2n which is a video camera + audio recorder designed specifically for musicians.  Costs about $160.

 

Not many options for under $100, especially taking into consideration that for a musician the ability to record good quality audio will be very important.

Oh the zoom looks nice, but can it connect to a cell phone?

Don't think so, but it has a screen for playback.  If the phone has a memory card slot perhaps you can load the file for playback.

You could connect the camera to an Android or maybe Win phone using an OTG cable/adapter

Oh you could? I guess that makes sense. It looks really nice tho and would be a great Christmas present for him.
