Making a dust filter - Best material

My Corsair Carbide has a large 240mm side fan which has no filters whatsoever, i remember i used to have it on since it really helps with airflow, and i endep up with dust everywhere.

Once i removed i had almost no dust at all inside the case, but i'd prefer to have it on since i'm getting two DirectCU II 780s in SLI.

I'm not going to spend money on pre built filters.

I wanted to know what would be the best material for filtering that's fairly common and cheap.
