Cheap headset for my big head?

Here's a $13 lavalier mic that Ed from TechSource recommends. It has a pretty short cable, so you'll either need to hook it up to your front I/O or use an extension cable.

https://www.amazon.ca/Neewer-3-5mm-Hands-Computer-Microphone/dp/B005DJOIHE/

By the way, I'm certain there's a way to use the microphone on your phone. I use DroidCam to use my Xiaomi Redmi 2 as a webcam all the time, and there are apps to use it as a mic too. You might not need to buy one at all- just set your phone on your desk and use that. This will enable you to afford a nicer pair of headphones, like the Sennheiser HD 202 II.

I will defo keep an eye on those

So I bought a Sades SA 711 (cheapest gaming headset in Canada). It was small but because it was cheap I did not regret anything

I am looking for a replacement. That headset was small and hurts because it was tight.

My ears are not the problem but over ear is what I want

I need a headset that is big for my head. Been looking at

HyperX stinger  http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826738012

and

Corsair Raptor http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826816035

I am also looking at G230. The look from the pic feels really big. The only annoying thing is it's red. Though if it is good I would not mind since I will be wearing them on my head and I don't have a mirror in front of me

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826197002

Been looking at MAD CATZ too. They have FREQ M. Not sure about size though.

http://www.factorydirect.ca/Canada-Ontario-/Headphones___Headsets/Headphones___Headsets/buy/MC4341/MCB4340400C2_02_MAD_CATZ_F_R_E_Q_M_WIRED_PC_MOBILE_GAMING_HEADSET__G_BLACK__/0

Usage: gaming. I am not an audiophile or whatever so sound quality is not an issue to me.

Seems that going for big brand would be nicer.

So here are some must

  • Wired (3.5mm (seperate mic and audio or I have to get a splitter) is more preferred though I have lots of USB ports)
  • Over Ear
  • Big. Been looking at some regular headset but too small
  • Not red, orange (though if only tiny bit of red I am fine). If cost justify would be nice too
  • Attached mic.
  • Under CAD 50. More is fine if it is truly worth it.
  • New or refurbed. No used.

HyperX Cloud is the only recommended "gaming" headset since it actually sounds somewhat decent.

If you want something that's actually comfortable to wear for your big noggin' you should probably be getting real headphones and a separate mic. I would increase the budget a little bit if I were you. You'd be better off with something nicer and not have to replace garbage gaming headsets that aren't built very well.

Sound is not an issue to me. Most of the time my teammate would not use mic at all lol. How is the stinger size compared to cloud?

Or Logitech's?

Well I know the G230 may be able to extend larger than the Clouds would - I used to have a pair of G230 and I have a rather large noggin' myself. The mic on it isn't super good but it'll do the job for the money.

Do you already have a pair of listening headphones? Because you can pair them with a desktop microphone, many of which offer great sound quality at or below your budget.

No. That's the problem. The one I had as mentioned was too tight

Alright, here are a few deals that might pique your interest. All prices are in CAD

Sennheiser HD 202 II- $42

https://www.amazon.ca/Sennheiser-202-Professional-Headphones-Black/dp/B003LPTAYI/

Sennheiser HD 202 II and Blue Snowball iCE bundle - $92 (this is a great deal)

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01HMHMU24/?tag=pcp0f-20&th=1

Philips SHL3000- $26 to $33 depending on what colour you pick. Brown and Red are at $26 right now.

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00EB82KPA/?tag=pcp0f-20&th=1

'Elegiant' USB Condenser Microphone- $24

https://www.amazon.ca/ELEGIANT-Multimedia-Handsfree-Condenser-Microphone/dp/B01EALPDNI/

Tonor USB Condenser Microphone- $22
https://www.amazon.ca/Tonor-Professional-Condenser-Microphone-Computer/dp/B00PZMP3Z0/

Try and shoot for the Sennheiser bundle. The headphones are great and the microphone is even better.

Alternatively, Direct Canada has Razer Kraken Pro headsets for very cheap - just $44 CAD. Jules Conroy on YouTube used them for years to produce really good mixes, so I can vouch for them.

EDIT: The midtones sucked on the 2013 version, and while these appear to be updated, I don't know if that was improved upon. Looking that up now.

Kraken looks really nice. Wonder if they would be large enough.

I reckon they're alright. However, the Sennheiser HD 202 II are hard to beat for comfort and sound quality at the price.

No mic though. Don't feel like paying 90 (tax too) for premium

How are they (kraken) compared to Logitech G series? G230 above?

I don't know, to be honest. I just saw that they were always considered to be good value even at retail price, and these are significantly below.

You don't have to get that mic bundle. You can roll with the HD 202 II by themselves (or even get the older, cheaper 201 for $3 less) and use either the Tonor or the Elegiant USB condenser microphone. You're not going too far over $60 and are getting excellent audio and recording quality - far better than any headset near this price range will yield.

I think I will go with Kraken now considering I hate red. My place is bit small so no space for a mic and I don't need it anyway. I move around a lot but my keep forgetting to recharge battery on my old Logitech H600 so decided to go wired route.

The Kraken is a good call, although I suspect the HD 202 II + Elegiant combo at $20 more might be well worth it - you'll get incomparably better audio quality for gaming, listening, broadcasting, and recording. I know for a fact that the HD 202 II is a good fit for a larger head, because I used to wear my bandmate's pair over my hat when I forgot I had it on.

Are you open to earbuds? Panasonic makes an absolutely ridiculous pair for $5-10. They were comfortable enough for me to wear for damn near 12 hours at a time, and they sounded good enough for me to mix all my material all the way from 2013 to early this year with.

I'm also going to see what I can find for a cheaper USB microphone in Canada- maybe Logitech still makes more of the stick mic I have.

Here's a $13 lavalier mic that Ed from TechSource recommends. It has a pretty short (60cm) cable, so you'll either need to hook it up to your front I/O or use an extension cable. It actually sounds a good deal better than the Tonor mic.

By the way, I'm certain there's a way to use the microphone on your phone. I use DroidCam to use my Xiaomi Redmi 2 as a webcam all the time, and there are apps to use it as a mic too.
