So i have the  Fios Quantum Gateway router and i was just wondering what is the point of those special gaming routers like the Asus - AC5300 Tri-Band Wireless-AC Gigabit Router and is there any point in me getting one?

Gaming router is marketing bs, QOS will do the same thing and is included in most routers.

 

If your using wired, almost any router will be the same.

Basically, they're marketing nonsense. Their "gaming mode" stuff is just basic QoS. 

 

They often have good WiFi performance, but the same or better can be achieved for less money if you just buy a decent Acess Point. If you're wired into the network, a gaming router won't make any real difference.

Just get a decent dualband router with gigabit ethernet and you'll be set. Make sure it's AC too.
