Basically, they're marketing nonsense. Their "gaming mode" stuff is just basic QoS. 

 

They often have good WiFi performance, but the same or better can be achieved for less money if you just buy a decent Acess Point. If you're wired into the network, a gaming router won't make any real difference.

Just get a decent dualband router with gigabit ethernet and you'll be set. Make sure it's AC too.
