Hey guys. So I have a server. I plug it in, and I turn on the plug and the server turns on. But nothings gets displayed on the screen, and I hear the power supply fan turn on. So now I open up the top of the server, and I see the lights flashing, but the fans on the top are not spinning. But on my server, there is another power supply. So there are 2 power supplies in total. Must I plug both power supplies into the wall for the server to work?

This does sound like a dumb question and it probably is. But please only answer if you KNOW the answer. I understand that logic says I need to plug both in, but is that really the case?

Please answer. I need to know if I need to buy another power cable for the server..

Thanks

Only 1 psu should be needed to keep your server up.

Unless it's such a high wattage server that it actually needed 2 psu's to get enough to power every part. Check the power rating on your psu.

About the no video. Some server might not have built-in graphics on the cpu, try a seperate low power / low cost gpu to see if you get any video out.

That time I saved Linus' WiFi pass from appearing on YouTube:

Both PSUs are the same. On the sticker, where it says "input", it says

100-127V - 10 A

200-240V - 5A

It does not say.. Only brand I can see is "@server" which is on the disk tray

Could you give us a photo of it? Most of us will be able to tell what it is just by what it looks like, even down to the model and generation.

Omg.. The images won't load here!  I will send links to imgur.. I can also see the product ID, but that won't help. I cannot find where it shows a serial number for the brand or anything.. Hopefully you can tell by the pictures.

Looks like an IBM x3650 (not sure if its M1, M2 or M3 yet). Could you give us the product ID as that actually tells us exactly what it is.

It's an IBM x346, suggest you download the manual and read the parts about the error lights. IBM servers have very good diagnostic lights on them which should tell you exactly what the problem is.

There's multiple places in the server where these error indicators are, first on the front and then a couple of places inside on the motherboard.

Edit: Also that server is extremely old, not sure how useful it will be. Really slow/old processors and parallel SCSI HDDs which are small in capacity.
