$1500-$1600 PC Rig

jaeminyou

Hello geeks, nerds & gamers

I'm intending to build a PC for my big brother. He mainly want a PC for both programming and gaming.

And I need help on which power supply is apt for my parts.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LjddGf

I heard Corsair CX series have issues, so I don't really know which other PSU to get.

Thank you

1080 isn't necessary, but remember I also have to purchase the peripherals.

I'd spend the remaining $300 on the peripherals and on Samsung EVO 850 and Asus motherboard. Would that be fine?

Wait never mind, I forgot about the monitor. I won't make the changes on the SSD and the motherboard. And I'll just go with a cheap Acer monitor.

Wouldn't cheap out on a monitor since you have a nice build, I'd at least go for 1080 144hz.

Including all the peripherals, it would roughly cost $500, should I decrease the budget to $1200?

Depends what you will cut out of the build, which build are you going with?

Plans changed, my brother's budget will be $1700, so I will stick with this: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LjddGf. However, I don't know which Watt PSU I need. And can you recommend me a cheap monitor for 1080 144hz?

Why not go with 6700k? Which keyboard and mouse are you picking up? How much is the total budget for monitor?

I only know that the total budget for both PC, monitor, and the peripherals is $1700. Should I divide the budget for PC to $1200 and the peripherals+monitors to $500?

You could do that, what kind of peripherals does your brother want? I would suggest maybe a corsair k65 or k70 (k65 is pretty cheap if he doesn't need RGB) and then maybe a razer chroma, or logitech g502 or mx master if he wants wireless. What kind of games will he be playing on the computer?

I think he'd want a mechanical keyboard (probably k65) and Logitech MX master :/ I'm not sure which games he will play,  but I assume he's gonna play high end graphic games.

Do you think he would prefer a higher refresh rate(I have never used anything higher than 60, but I imagine it is glorious) or something like a 60hz 1440p monitor that will be visually stunning, but maybe not as smooth? ( not to say it isn't smooth, 60hz 1440p is very beautiful)

Possibly, he'd be using it in university anyways, and probably go hardcore gaming haha..

How does this build look? I went with the 6700k build that was suggested earlier in the thread, and the one I think is better, but I guess you could switch to the other one.

That looks sweet! Do the components fit perfectly with the same number of pins?

There shouldn't be any problems, you can get custom cable mod cables if you would like to upgrade things aesthetically. You could also change the case to the NZXT S340 with the tempered glass window, if your brother is into that sorta thing. I think it looks gorgeous.
