Budget & Location

I live in Canada and I'd like to spend around $1000.

Aim

I'll be using the computer for graphic design, video editing, as well as some gaming (League of Legends, Dota 2, CS:GO). It will also be connected remotely to a 16 channel 4 MP security system so the monitors will be high quality.

Monitors

3 monitors that won't be included in the $1000 budget that I have.

Peripherals

Already have all the peripherals picked out so it won't be going towards the $1000 budget that I have.

Why are you upgrading?

I'll be buying 2 or 3 of these builds for the office for a new business that I am starting.

Other

I've been following the LinusTechTips and Techquickie YouTube channel for quite a while now as well as a few others, and have finally decided to get back into building PC's but it's been about 8 years since I last built one and a ton has changed. Have done a fair bit of research and am currently building a list of parts but I just wanted to see what other people thought as well. Thanks in advance!

Current Parts List

Intel Core i5-6500 Processor, 3.2GHz w/ 6MB Cache

Asus B150M-A M.2 w/ DDR4-2133, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit LAN, USB 3.0 Type-C Port

Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1050 Ti G1 Gaming 4G OC 4GB PCI-E w/ Triple HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI

Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB DDR4 2133MHz CL13 Dual Channel Kit (2x 8GB), Black

Corsair CS Series 650W Modular Power Supply

Corsair Carbide Series Spec-M2 mATX Case, Window, Black

EDIT: Added parts list.

Yeah, I have set aside 3TB of storage for the security cameras and I've been thinking about putting them on their own. Also, the monitors will not be included in the $1000 budget. The $1000 is just for the tower, but with the peripherals and monitors it will probably be closer to $1600.

You can get three displays for around 400 if you research right, so that budget makes sense.

How were you planning to connect all the computers to all the cameras?

Just an idea, but what if you got laptops as the computers, and then used docks to connect to two external displays? I would personally suggest the Microsoft Surface pro 4 / Surfacebook, but I am a surface Fanboy.

If you were to spend 1000 on laptops, Plus the dock/adapters nssecary, and then two external displays, you would save money, and have laptops for when you get an upgrade down the line.

I would suggest getting the i5 6500/6600 and getting the RX 470 instead.

Looks like I'll be getting a NVR for the security cameras so now that will have nothing to do with the build.

Any specific reason to the change?

There is no point in paying the extra price for the i5 6600K (K for overclockable) when you can't overclock in a B150 board, so save up and get the i5 6600/6500. If you want to overclock get a Z170 board and good cooler, otherwise save up and get the other i5s.

The RX 470 offers a lot of performance over the 1050ti little extra according to its MSRP.

Ahh gotcha, thanks for the heads up. I did have the Asus Z170-A w/ DDR4 2133, 7.1 Audio, Gigabit LAN, CrossFireX / SLI in mind before so that I could have the option to overclock. I'll dig into that a little more a make my changes.

Just finished picking out the rest of my parts minus the storage (looking at an SSD + HD setup). Decided to go with the i5-6500 and stick with the 1050 Ti though. Comes out to 942.94 if I buy the parts from Memory Express, 919.94 from NewEgg, and 905.55 using PCPartPicker. Any suggestions on the remainder of my choices?

EDIT: Changed 1080 Ti to 1050 Ti. Mistype.

1050 Ti you mean, couldn't you take the RX 470 after saving up from the difference between the 6600K and the 6500?

Maybe just have SSD's in the actual systems, then have a NAS to store the files. Makes sharing easier for coop  work, and easier to backup/replace.

Is the performance significantly better? I still have to add the storage to my pricing and I'd like to stay just under $1000 if possible. If the difference is that big, I might go slightly cheaper on the other parts and get the RX 470.

On a side note, what aftermarket cooler do you guys suggest for my current build?

EDIT: Added side note.

If this will be used only as you say it will (with light to moderate gaming) I would highly recommend looking into Xeon E3 processors for the 4-core with hyperthreading options. Also, if you are doing anything with security on these I would suggest getting a self-encrypting drive. The build below would work great for productivity and would be fine for light to moderate gaming.

Side note, sorry I didn't have time to make an included parts list, I have to leave for work.
