ASUS 970G motherboard not detecting m.2 Drive

uzi
Go to solution Solved by ProdigyzMined,

Looks like the motherboard is for PCIe M.2 SSD's, and the drive you have is SATA-based. I've had issues in the past with Asus boards specifically not supporting SATA M.2 drives for some reason, and it looks like you're having that issue now. You'll likely need to buy an M.2 to standard SATA adapter in order to get it to work (however speeds shouldn't be affected.)

I finally finished my build and I purchased a  ASUS 970 Pro Gaming/Aura motherboard for it's m.2 slot. For my drive I chose a  Crucial MX300 525GB M.2 (2280)

I've tried everything I can think of. The drive is compatible with the motherboard, and all is well in the sector. **I DID NOTE THAT SOMEONE SAID I MAY HAVE TO BUY A PCIE ADAPTER**

I've been through the BIOS countless times..

I'm at a deadend. Can anyone help me through this?

Also i thought maybe the drive was dead so i returned it for a new one and im still havin the same issue.

Are you trying to install an OS to it or just add it to your current system?

Hit the Funny Button!    :D     The more you press it the funnier you get  :)

Go to Disk Management, find it in the upper pane (list) and format the drive.

Interesting? I had the same problem with a Asus Z1701 Pro Gaming and I'm trying to remember what I had to do to fix it. I didn't have to buy anything. Im thinking it was a BIOS setting than format. I did have one heck of a time getting the OS on it. I ended up installing it on another Samsung ssd and using the Samsung software the copy it to the M.2 than tell the BIOS to boot to that drive.

My MSI laptop has an 128GB M.2 for its OS drive and another 512 SSD for storage and am out of room on the 128GB M.2. I did have to buy two adapters so I could go from m.2 to m.2!
