My dad had a Macbook Pro but is looking for a new laptop. He is doctor and does a lot of work on it he needs something really reliable also something very professional looks along the lines on a Macbook. He doesn't want the new Macbook because he is afraid he will lose the dongles and also wants a laptop with actual ports price is two much of problem because he uses it everyday he also preferably wants something fairly light.

I have an Asus UX303UA. It has 12GB of RAM and an intel i7 6500U. I wouldn't recommend it for someone like an engineer or someone who needs serious power but I can imagine it would be more than enough for a doctor.

The high specs are good because it never slows down and a 256GB SSD should be more than enough space.

It is in the middle of the road in terms of weight for ultrabooks.

It is fairly cheap for an ultrabook (slightly more expensive than a MacBook Pro.

It's made of aluminium and appears to be able to take a hit well.

It has 1 HDMI, 1 MiniDisplay Port, 1 SD card reader, 1 headphone jack and 3 USB 3.0 ports. They also provide a MiniDisplay Port to VGA adapter and a USB to Ethernet adapter.

HOWEVER:

The particular model I have for whatever reason doesn't have a backlit keyboard.

At a more premium price point you could go for the HP spectre. I looks amazing and it's the 2nd thinnest laptop in the world. Also quite powerful.

https://www.sagernotebook.com/Notebook-NP9873-S.html  I don't see why he'd need anything else

http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/productdetails/xps-13-9360-laptop -very good option.  You could even do an XPS 15 if he wants more screen revenue.
