i am a college student that is on a decent budget i am currently running an matx board and stock intell cpu and a powerecollor r9 390 with evga 750 evo atx power supply in a nzxt source210
i am currently looking to downsize the case as i need a way more portable case that fits everything i don't have the money to get an itx form factor like i really want to and get something like the node 202 but i really need to down size my case cause its far to large to take back ad froth to school when i want to game on it or do things for class that my laptop cant. can anyone recommend a good matx case that's as small as possible but will still hold all my components preferable with a handle

Bitfenix Prodigy would be something to look at?

he said small as possible. So likely a HTPC type case which at least shrinks one dimension (think XBOX sized). Length and width enough to fit a mobo, psu, and drives but only as tall as a PCIe device.

Main Rig: R9 5950X @ PBO, RTX 3090, 64 GB DDR4 3666, InWin 101, Full Hardline Watercooling

Server: R7 1700X @ 4.0 GHz, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB DDR4 3000, Cooler Master NR200P, Full Soft Watercooling

LAN Rig: R5 3600X @ PBO, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Dan Case A4-SFV V4, 120mm AIO for the CPU

HTPC: i7-7700K @ 4.6 GHz, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 3200, AliExpress K39, IS-47K Cooler

Router: R3 2200G @ stock, 4GB DDR4 2400, what are cases, stock cooler

I don't have a problem...

Right path I think, but he wanted mATX so he doesn't have to buy another motherboard.

That's why I said example and not recommended. I was giving an example of the type of design to look for. Short (HTPC style), mATX support, with full-height PCIe slots.

Also if you can find one, check out the Kimera Cerberus. Thing is amazing. But I don't think they're doing mass production yet, so might not be able to find one.

Oh yeah and your case still doesn't support mATX boards. That too.

I second the notion of the Prodigy case. Its not tiny but those handles mean you could easily carry it with a light box or something on top for move-in/out. As a college student who had a Full tower case for his first two years its not that bad to move a pc in.

CPU: I5 4590 Motherboard: ASROCK H97 Pro4 Ram: XPG 16gb v2.0 4x4 kit  GPU: Gigabyte GTX 970 PSU: EVGA 550w Supernova G2 Storage: 128 gb Sandisk SSD + 525gb Mx300 SSD Cooling: Be Quiet! Shadow Rock LP Case: Zalman T2 Sound: Logitech Z506 5.1 Mouse: Razer Deathadder Chroma Keyboard: DBPower LED

I don't think there's really a case that fits everything you want. mATX is kind of hard to find small cases for.

  • Corsair Air 240
  • Aerocool DS-Cube
  • Prodigy M
Built the mITX version for a friend. Good case. The handles are a little wobbly though, they're made out of a slightly flimsy rubber.
  • LianLi PCU300
A little on the bigger side, but it's the only one with a handle.
  • Silverstone SG10
    Small.
  • Silverstone FT03
This case doesn't have a handle, but it'll take up the least amount of desk space by far. Plus it looks bad ass.
  • Project Orthrus
If you are going to be in school for a while, this would be a good one to keep an eye on. Not currently in production.

If he's worried about desk space I don't think one of these would be that good. It'd likely take up the most space, unless there's one that can be stood on its side.
