I am looking for a 7-8 inch tablet, mainly for watching youtube videos, browsing the web and offline media consumption. I would like a screen at least 720p and with microSD expansion. I do not plan to play games on the tablet so I do not need a powerful GPU. The Asus Zenpad line is quite promising, and I am quite interested in the AC wifi models, but they are quite expensive. Is the AC wifi better in "winning over other devices" when connecting to a crowded network, for example in starbucks? Assuming that the wifi router is a wireless-N, will AC wifi adapter provide better performance for tablets?

AC won't help at all in this case.

Not really, it won't really help.
