Will 21:9 video ever make it mainstream?

Saiyan

Just curious... I don't really know a lot about video making, processing, and ect but was wondering if 21:9 will ever become the new 16:9 in terms of videos? Just curious seeing as how we made the jump from 4:3 to 16:9 but again I'm not big on the subject so I don't know what kind of complications there would be with trying to make 21:9 the new standard.

If it will? It basically has. I can't think of a game in recent memory that wasn't a crappy port to being with that does not support 21:9. I have had my ultra wide for 2 years. It's probably not going to be an aspect you see in a lot of internet videos but movies have been 21:9 for years. It wasn't designed to take 16:9's place.

There's been a couple 21:9 TVs released in the last few years but unfortunately they've all been discontinued.  Movies have been shot in the 21:9 aspect ratio since the 1950's and most high end theaters, both home and commercial have 2.39:1 (21:9) screens.
