Best cheap PSU?

IKnight

First of: I'm sorry, I know this has been asked 100 times but I can't find any solid answer.

Secondly: Hi!

Thirdly: What would be a cheap and reliable PSU capable of around 600W? The reason for the cheap part is becuase I'm building a computer on a small budget; Specs: i7 950, 2x Gigabite GTX 460s (SLI), OCZ SSD.

I live in Europe so links to websites like Newegg and amazon.com won't be of much help.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Custom pinewood case, Corsair CX 600WRampage 3 Extreme, i7 980x (@4.2ghz) with ML240 Cooler MSI GTX 970, 24gb DDR3, 240gb OCZ Tr150 SSD + 2Tb Seagate Baracuda.

Advocate for used/older hardware. Also one of the resident petrol heads.

SLI GPUs usually require high-end PSUs due to increased heat output and power consumption. Can you find anything in the PSU tier list in my signature at least tier 3 online or in shops near your location?

Thanks for the quick reply, I checked out the PSUs in your signature and I found quite a few of them, granted, most were over $150. Here's a few that seem okay and are at the lower end of the spectrum (not sure if the coller master ones are what you recommend): https://www.amazon.de/Seasonic-S12II-620-Stromversorgung-620-ATX22/dp/B003BIEOCI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1481310642&sr=8-

Would I need to buy more PCI cables for the 2 graphics cards or?... (Seasonic only comes with 1)

I think I might wait till Christmas to get a PSU in case something good pops up at a discount.

I haven't had any issues with my Zalman ZM700-GLX, It's a affordable good quality PSU of 700w 80Plus, though it isn't modular so that might be a con for you.

https://seasonic.com/product/s12ii-620/

Comes with two sets of 6+2 pin connections. Does the GTX 460 take an 8-pin or dual 6-pins cuz if it's dual 6-pins then you'll need an adapter).

The GTX takes dual 6-pins, so I would need (dual 6-pins) x2.

Yeah, you gotta use adapters then. One 8-pin can supply as much power as two 6-pins. Just gotta find the proper adapters.

How much are you payng for the i7 950, and can you get a Xeon X5675 on your area? They are as low as $78 USD on ebay here with six cores and 12 threads. If the

5675 is no cheaper then nevermind.

I would recommend the Corsair Vengeance 650M for the same price point as that Seasonic. https://www.amazon.de/Corsair-CP-9020112-Vengeance-Teil-Modular-Netzteil/dp/B01CQ4B49S/

I got the i7 from a friend for free. However, if I were to ever upgrade the system, thanks for the tip. The 5675 would fit in the same socket as the i7, right?

Edit: The 5675 is incredibly expensive on amazon.de/co.uk, (€150+).

Yes, they are both FCLGA 1366. That's too bad about the price.

Would the CX600 be any good? I have heard the CX series is kinda crap but what do you guys think?

The CX600 is an older, mediocre design that doesn't have the connectivity for two 460 in SLI. If you want to get the CX series, look at the new and updated CX650M. It's a more modern and superior unit than the CX600 / M.

However, since you can buy from Amazon.de, you should be able to get the Vengeance 650M that I had linked to. It's based on the same internal platform as the CX650M, but it offer full Japanese caps, a better rifle bearing fan, and has an extra set of protection being a multi-rail unit. It's also cheaper.

Just wondering if this PSU is good? It's rated at 700W which means that it will be able to run the 460s and then some. It's also cheaper than the 650M and is from a store in Sweden (meaning that returning it would be easier if something was wrong with it).

Not really. It's based on the GPK platform (universal input version of the GPM based Corsair VS) which is a lower-end design than the previous CX600M you was looking at.

If you would like to buy from that site, the Corsair CX650M would be a good option. https://www.inet.se/produkt/6900043/corsair-cx650m-650w#specs

The Cooler Master G650M would be a more affordable option (I'd go for the Corsair though). https://www.inet.se/produkt/6909897/cooler-master-gm-650w#specs
