So I'm looking to get a high end PC soon and I'm pretty sure on what RAM I want, that being corsair 16gb lpx. I know that some motherboards only allow a certain speed of clock speed and RAM storage limit but what about the slots you put the RAM in? Are dimm slots the same or do some mobos have different types of them? I'm getting a z170 board so ddr4 RAM.

i know this looks stupid cos I'm pretty sure all ddr4 fits into the same socket but I'm just checking to be safe.

Thanks for the help

Ass long as you buy ddr4 normal dimm's and not sodimms you should be good but I have myself 32 gB in totals in my asus z170 of the corsair vengeance 3200mhz and with the z170 from asus may it be the deluxe the A or the pro gaming you can even applies overclocks to your ram up till 3844 if I remember.

the only limit is 64GB maximum because of ddr4 or something don't have the details on that.

Assuming your running in dual channel mode with x2 8gb sticks, make sure your inserting them into the correct slots.  They should be labeled as Slot A1, A2, Slot B1,B2 or something similar to that (consult your MoBo manual).  Insert your RAM in slots A1 and B1 for dual channel mode.

Also make sure that if you are using an air cooler on your cpu that the headspreaders on your ram isn´t to high, so that it would touch your air cooler on your cpu. That wouldnt work. Dont worry to much about speed, if you arent going insane with the Mhz pretty much every module should work on a z170 mobo. I also cant recommend to spend to much money on high speed or low latency kits, bc you wont notice the speed difference in real world at all.

Thanks guys, I know about the air cooler overhang and dual channel and stuff but I just didn't want to fuck up buying RAM last min lol. What through me was the cl16 and cl15 stuff but I researched around a bit and it looks like it's the efficiency and speed of the RAM.

Thanks for the help
