Undo after closing program??

A few tips from a student who's father majored in art as well as computer science:
1) Don't use paint. It's only good for one thing: trolling (this is what I say). Get Gimp for FREE (it's as good as photoshop imho. I've used the newest and latest versions of Photoshop as well as the older versions. I still enjoy Gimp more). OR Buy photoshop, but all the filters and such can be intimidating to a new learner.

2) Buy her a Wacom Drawing Pad for Christmas if she doesn't already have one.

3) SAVE everytime you make a new layer or change. And save it to a different name so you have back-ups. Wonder why artists need 200 TB+ of memory? They save even the junkie revisions of drawings just to make extras in case of a file corruption.

Best of luck to you mate!

She's not a professional artist... I doubt she could learn or want/need to learn professional photo editing programs.

OFC she could save as every time she make a change, but again, that takes a lot of remembering (plus she just names everything by mashing on the keyboard).

I thought that there might be a nice 3rd party program to save every change along with the actual file, so undos could be possible after an update, but I guess not. No biggie.

Is there a way to save, close a document, open it again, and then still have CTRL + Z work for previous changes?

Maybe save all previous changes when the file itself is saved?

But why?

It's a nice feature to have.

also, my sister is learning how to use a PC, and loves MS Paint. problem is that when windows auto-updates, the file gets automatically closed, and she can no longer undo her actions.

it's a minor thing, not a huge deal, but it would be cool if there was a way to do it.

REVISION HISTORY?

WHAT IS THAT!?!?

ALSO, WHAT IS CAPSLOCK!?

I DONT THINK THAT THERE IS REVISION HISTORY FOR SOMETHING LIKE MICROSOFT PAINT, WHICH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PROGRAM I WANT THIS TO WORK ON

MS paint is a way too simple ropgram. Try some alternatives like paint net maybe they have something you could look at

Or...

Ctrl+S every second

Ctrl + S every second wont work.

I'm talking about being able to undo after a file is closed. CTRL + S wont do anything for that.

No I mean, save as. Not just save. So in case she made some mistakes she can open her most recently saved file

Ehh. GIMP might be too confusing for starter but I agree. I still feel that Paint is easier for light task such as copy pasting a print screen

does 200tb drive exist though?

Unless the software is specifically designed to behave that way (meaning that it keeps a log file for every project you load to allow it to resume things after the program left your RAM by being closed), there is no way to do this.

The closest thing you can do, is allow File History in Windows. Start > Type: File History to get started. You need a separate HDD for this (within the system, or network), and set the time to like, make a backup every 10min. (Windows will only backup the bits that are different between each versions... so the space it takes for months and months of work is minimal). This will not do what you want to do, but it will allow to recover (or just open to view), older version of her work.

Also, FileHistory feature is a good way to get a nice backup against randsomware... as you can just go back in time on a file/folder/drive, and you are good to go.

You can probably get auto save to work... Let me see if paint has it, brb.

As for professional or not, a Wacom tablet is still a great option. Though now they have actual tablets with styluses....

EDIT: Well this is unfortunate, Paint does not have an auto save option. Good luck on it! Another idea is to turn off automatic updates.

Have you checked Paint.NET? Its supposed to be bit advanced edition of MS Paint, kinda like Notepad++ is from Notepad. Maybe that allows auto-save for versions. But otherwise there's no such thing in OS itself.

Would still suggest GIMP over this option :P Also, if you have a MsX (Windows 10) PC, check out the windows store; they're bound to have some good apps there.
