if you can manage higher refresh rate, then by all means, go for it

Even if you play Dota or Lol or cs;go i would still get a ips panel unless you play those games for a living,a IPS is just better for everyday use

Running on a GTX 1060 @1080p, is the extra refresh rate on a 144 Hz TN monitor worth the loss of visuals from a IPS panel?

for a competitive game like CSGO I would take a higher refresh rate over pretty colours. If I was playing a more cinematic game like BF1 I would consider IPS

The basic difference between TN and IPS is that TN are high refresh rate and cheaper to make. IPS is more colour accurate but slower and a tad more expensive to make.

Also remember that monitors will generally outlast your gpu by a huge margin.

I play mainly overwatch, but not at a competitive level. I'm also limited to what I can play (running on dedicated Intel graphics) right now so I'm not sure how my game choice will open up when I can actually run shit at decent frames/quality. Probably more of the same.

in that case, just go for IPS at 60hz

I've been using that refresh rate for over a year now, and it's fine for gaming

144hz is super smooth, but IPS looks so much nice

I've got the MG279Q for a few days now, and I have to say that it's day and night compared to a TN.

Once you are used to IPS panels it's difficult to get back to TNs, the color accuracy and the definition is difficult to get in a TN.

In the long run, you'd better be with the IPS IMO, for daily gaming and work.
