Overclocking with ddr2 800mhz ram

Hi!

I have an old system. I have a GA-P35-DS3 (rev. 2.0) motherboard and 4gb of ddr2 800mhz ram.

I have a q8300 CPU. I was wondering if i want to gain performance then should i get a q9650 and over clock it. I know that higher frequency is more important in games.

I managed to overclock my q8300 to 3ghz. I was wondering if i buy a q9650 with a base clock of 3ghz then how much can i over clock it. I don't think i could over clock it too much because of my ddr2 800mhz ram. Well if i could overclock it to 3.5ghz then that would be great, but i don't know what if i buy a qx9770 or a X5470 with a little higher base clock and over clock it.

Depends on the price

The q9650 and X5470 are the cheapest ones, the x5470 cost a little bit more than the q9650 but the qx9770 is waaay more expensive.

But like, if it's more than 50 bucks, then you're better off saving for something that'll be a major improvement

No, the q9650 like $67 and the x5470 $88 in my country's currency.

Get an x5450 or e5450 they are way cheaper than the x5470 or q9650.

The problem with x5450 and e5450 is that they need a lga771 socket and my motherboard supports lga775 socket.
