will this pc work

Yes, but you may want to also consider putting x2 4GB sticks instead of x1 8GB

There's no compatibility issues between the different parts, but I wouldn't do it like this. I'd swap the 1070 for a 1060 and get better parts (especially the PSU).

Yeah I also agree, a 1060 would be a better choice.

With dual channel compatibility, you essentially double the RAM access bandwidth for your PC.

I guess that is true. If he plans on upgrading in the future, have x1 instead of x2 would be good.

To cut costs a bit get a CX550M (bronze) power supply.

If you are running at 1920x1080, the GTX-1070 is overkill. Get a 1060 instead.

Get 2x4Gigs of RAM unless you intend to add another 8Gig stick in the very near future.

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.

i5-6600, 16Gigs, ITX Corsair 250D, R9 390, 120Gig M.2 boot, 500Gig SATA SSD, no HDD

2x4 is barely enough for gaming right now (and mobo only has 2 slots), if he goes for the cxm then the best choice would be to upgrade to 16gb. Finally the 1070 is the better choice if he can afford it.

Actually, although 16Gigs is becoming the "norm", 8Gigs is still plenty for most users. (4Gigs is still "enough" for most games if you don't run any other apps at the same time.)

You'll note that I said "unless....". If you are going to wait a year or more to afford to upgrade the RAM, it's better to go with the dual-channel access now.

Yes, the CX550M would possibly allow him to get 16Gig (2x8) now - that was the point.

Finally, a GTX-1060 is aimed towards 1080p gaming. While it might be nice to get a 1070, it is still overkill, and the OP didn't include an OS in his original build. He may need to get a 1060 to fit Windows in his budget.

In any case, they were just suggestions. :)

A sieve may not hold water, but it will hold another sieve.
