Final Fantasy 15 + Gameworks

Ok, maybe I'm being dumb here, I just picked up the box whilst I was installing FF15 on my PS4 and noticed on the back of the case "Nvidia Gameworks". Which got me thinking why? Afaik, AMD make the GPU's for both PS4 and XBOXO so why is Gameworks in this game?

I mean, Nvidia isn't disallowed to help optimize a game, and the PC release will certainly perform better on Nvidia GPUs.

But Nvidia does help to optimise games with the end result been its also optimised for it's own hardware meaning more optimised  titles for NV = more NV hardware sales. PC release is only speculated

I mean, it's also marketing for Nvidia if they did help develop a game, to put their logo in there.

Hopefully it does come to PC, since I want to play World of Final Fantasy as well.

 

We need to have Nvidia push PhysX so that these powerful graphics cards can pull some more weight.

Yeah I wonder if it'd be possible for AMD to include their Gaming Evolved trademark in any game that they help optimize.

 

Or since they own the IP of the console hardware, on every PS4 game

It's because Nvidia sends out (or has sent out) help for little gain in money, but rather marketing. AMD doesn't have that kind of drive, it seems.

You might be right, and there might be the reason that AMD just doesn't have enough engineers.

 

So it's really not a free gift, for both companies it is (or would be) a marketing expense.

Basically. AMD "could" gain a better foothold in the gaming or engineering spaces if they bite the wallet and put some work in to optimize.

 

SolidWorks, for example, does so much better with a FirePro than it does on a Quadro. Why? AMD had a hand in optimizing the FirePro for the program. They didn't do the same with Alien: Isolation, but the result was running marvelously well with AMD CPU's though Nvidia GPU's won out.

I think you overestimate the cost of holding a conference in Hawaii compared to sending a whole team of engineers to work majorly on a specific game for 2 years

 

But yes I agree AMD would win out by making their name better known. See the video.

I watched a trailer for final fantasy XXX, I can't wait for the game to be released, it's full of mature content unlike the rest of the Final Fantasy games.

This is my point, if the AMD logo appeared on the rear of PS4/XBO games people would have a subconscious "knowledge" of the company, and when it comes to buy PC hardware (the non-enthusiasts) maybe some of that mindless buying could sway AMD's way.

 

I mean, I wonder how many console owners know that their GPU's are made by AMD

Not played long enough, I had 5 mins last night, ill check for HBAO and hairworks later

No way this game has Hairworks... More than anything this game needs some serious AA (put in 25 hours). Wished I knew how the ps4 pro looks as that system runs the game at a higher res

Alien: Isolation was developed with AMD Gaming Evolved and still ran better on Nvidia hardware. AMD just doesn't have the right mindset when it comes to their products. They're too busy trying to hit the lower-market with inexpensive cards.

 

Nvidia sends developers out to help program for Gameworks. They don't (usually) get paid for the time they put into the project and use it as a marketing cost. No Gameworks project that I've played has come out of the box with Gameworks features on by default. If an AMD user knows that the game uses Gameworks and sets the game to use Hairworks, knowing that it's a Green feature, he shouldn't blame Nvidia. It'd be like me taking a 780 and checking a box for Async Compute, it's not going to end well.

 

Also, it's not coincidence. It's just AMD marketing their X80 card and having it go head-to-head with an Nvidia X60.

 

Rant: Revealing the 480 AS the 480 is a joke in itself. If they had named it the 470, it would have looked better and made a much stronger presence if AMD could find a way to get a much stronger card for the 480 and 490.

I was merely wondering why a console exclusive has Gameworks considering the GPU's are made by AMD
