Windows key not working

Fresh install of windows 8.1, I have the key it came with.. why can't I activate?

"This key didn't work, please check it and try again or try a different key."

Local tech store. It has worked before, I tried to install it on another disk.

Enter it with ones for "I", zeroes for "O", etc.

Have you called Microsoft CS? They can help you activate it.

Ugh no, seems like such a hassle though.

 

If I was to buy a windows 10 key off from kinguin or something, could I use it to activate an ISO from USB assuming it's the same type of windows?

If you cannot get it to work, you can call the automated Microsoft activation hotline. I have done this in the past with OEM versions of windows and it worked very well. It is a very good automated system and takes less than 10 minutes. If you end up calling go here to find the right number.

Hmm.. Okay I'll give this a go before buying something.

Your very welcome. I forgot to mention that you need to go into windows 8 and find the "Activate by phone option" A window will pop up and give you a code. The phone system will ask you for this code and it will not work without it.
