I've been having a struggle with my internet. My connection is perfectly fine but every 15-30 seconds I get hit with a major rubberband in gaming (From what I know, these lag spikes don't show up in ping or graphs) And out of gaming, sometimes websites refuse to open but the majority of the time everything pops up in a split second like it is supposed to. So, my internet runs on a smooth road, there is just major bumps in it, it seems. I do have a wireless connection and I plan on getting a 50ft ethernet cord to plug into my router. I have tried powerlines which helped but now they are lost in pairing mode and render useless.

So my main question is, is there anything I can do now by myself that can fix this issue without calling my isp or getting an ethernet cord.

If not then what is my second closest easiest option besides just a quick answer of "Get an ethernet cable" because I plan on doing that but that would mean a cord running across my hallway.

Well getting an ethernet cable would limit the possibility of it being your internet or your wireless. In my experience, if your router isn't up to snuff and you live in a space that's crowded around the 2.4GHz frequency, you're going to have issues from time to time.

Routers have a tendency to do that. If you think about it, it's been on almost 24/7 and pumping out stuff all the time.

Especially if it's a consumer Netgear router. >_>

Yeeeaaaahhh.

Basically, lag can be induced by your computer, your wireless or wired connection to you router/modem, your router/modem, your modem's connection to your ISP, your ISP's hardware, in the game provider's hubs/routers/servers, and in the multiple hops across the internet your ISP makes to connect to the game provider.

You pretty much only have control over what is happening inside you own home (PC, wireless connection, router/modem). Running an ethernet cable from you PC to your router might work if the fault is in your wireless connection. It will certainly confirm or eliminate that your wireless connection is the problem, and it would be a good cheap first step.
