Poppy flower is natural. Heroin is a synthetic derivative of it. That's like saying gasoline is natural, because it's made from oil, which is made from dead dinosaurs. Gasoline, much like heroin, is a human invention.

 

Using opiates and natural unprocessed poppy flowers to get high is one thing. Saying that's comparable to heroin is a misleading statement.

Morphine is a naturally occurring substance in the poppy plant. We can derive many substances such as morphine and codeine from bacteria (insulin is one of the most known uses of the process). Heroin on the other hand is synthesized from the naturally derived/extracted morphine through chemical decomposition and synthesis such as the Gates Method.

I'm not sure why you think we're all hippy natural lovers, but I believe in science based facts. You misspoke. Maybe that was accidental, and you meant natural opiates. Maybe not. I don't know. I was simply correcting you, when you said heroin was natural - it's not.

 

No one here was arguing that natural = good. In fact, chemicals are chemicals, whether they are natural or artificial. I feel confident in saying that most of us are well aware that LOTS of natural things will, as they say, "kill you dead".
