iv always said using TOR is a trap. They can tell TOR traffic from normal traffic and you have a choice; join in the flooding of the five-eyes network with cat videos or be in that small group of weirdos who use TOR. They just did a sting this year of online drug buyers, there were so many the NZ police went door knocking with verbal warnings. I think a lot of people do not realise how far ahead the US government and military are in internet technology & encryption, they did invent it.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee would strongly disagree.

 

Americans invented TCP/IP and networking but it was an English man who invented HTTP which is what the internet runs from.

 

Also modern computer cryptology was pioneered at Bletchley Park during WW2 by Turing & Welchman. Welchman took what he learned at Bletchley and moved to the USA where he worked to develop early secure communication protocols for the government. He did eventually take US citizenship but him and Turing were both British when they developed early cryptology techniques using computers to crack the enigma code.

 

Its funny how everyone thinks Americans invented everything to do with the Internet. They had network capabilities for coming on 30 years yet it took an English man to invent a standardised way of doing wide area networking. Typically the US saw it as another tool for their armies and colleges, nothing more.

Err no. Welchman is basically single handedly responsible for the NSA as they are today, what he achieved using American budgets is modern government spying.

 

The American government has sunk exactly $0 into developing the internet, Lee deliberately left HTTP open source and in the hands of the people because he knew exactly what would happen if any government got their hands on it.

 

I admire your national loyalty but claiming the USA played any role in developing the internet (as in HTTP/WWW and not computer networking) is like claiming Donald Trump was a good choice. Your military was almost responsible for crushing it before it was even invented as they wanted to keep TCP/IP a secret and use it for battlefield communication.

I'm not american. Im not talking about the nationality of inventors. The DoD funded Arpanet. They laid the foundations for the internet and then walked away. It was also US tax money that brought the internet to NZ via NASA. Without USA money, no internet.

Your confusing computer networking with the internet, they are very different things.

 

Arpanet had nothing to do with the Internet, it was the first wide area computer network anywhere in the world and yes, without it we would have no modern internet but it was not the internet. It was a very early and very rudimentary computer network.

 

Berners-Lee invented the internet in 1989 with his invention of HTTP.

 

Like I said, Americans did all the groundwork in computer networking, Lee just designed the protocol that made it all work in the way we would call "the internet" today.

Technically the Internet is the network and the web is HTTP, the sites and everything that runs on the internet.

I just don't really differentiate, to me the web is the internet but that's just me.

there was a time when chrome was new and firefox was just terrible but i find it quite usable now +its better for adblocking and privacy

Yeah i´m going to test it out.

I had issues with certain java applets in the 50.0.1 version.

But i assume this might aswell be an issues with the Firefox 64bit version maybe.

My old version was 32Bits only, i was just thinking about that.

Maybe the newer version installed 64bit or both, and maybe thats why i got 2x firefox*32.exe processes running.

THe 50.0.1 version also felt pretty sluggish to me.

I'm going to play arround with it, and see if maybe installing a 32 bits only version helps.

I'm just saying the american government funded a lot and quite a bit of technological advancement came out of military budgets. will be the same in britain. US cryptographic export restrictions are a good example of american authorities staying a step ahead. they do have the computing power and budget to spy on our attempts at privacy like TOR

well some people are misguided and suffer from paranoia. they ask google about security and with low tech literacy they get privacy and security mixed up. i get at least one email a month on my mailing-list email from a random who wants help installing Qubes and TOR.

Hahah yes. Usually when you hear of people getting caught it's when they use an email or something with their name in it or phone number.

Isn't that the thing where they split the content into a separate process? The same way Chrome splits tabs into new processes, except on a more limited scale.

Probably. I know Firefox at least used to run on only one process.
