$400 CAD GPU & CPU

So right now im rocking a pentium g3258 oc'd to 4.4ghz, with a gtx 550ti. I have a 400$ budget and will be purchasing all the parts around Christmas time.

 

I think the best option for me is to get a gtx 1060 3gb for around 300$ and then save the other 100$ to get a used i5 once i get some more money. What do u guys think?

what socket is your motherboard because you will need a CPU which has the same socket unless you also want to have to buy a new motherboard as well

Pentium G3258 is socket LGA-1150 if Im not mistaken.

ah yes, i see that. Im gonna get this https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/7bL7YJ/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-1060-3gb-windforce-oc-video-card-gv-n1060wf2oc-3gd one however as rebates dont really matter much to me just up front price, and yes i was planning on getting a used 4460. Also when i said 300$ CAD i was including shipping + tax.

For AutoDesk or AutoCAD, I would recommend any i5 and a GTX 1050 Ti. CUDA will be very helpful and the 4GB VRAM will help out when working with large amounts of vertices, textures, and calculations.

I dont really think a 1050ti is worth it though, it cant even utilize the 4gb of VRAM because it doesnt have enough compute power, and its only 60$ less than a 1060 3gb and about 75% slower.

Save up a little bit more and get a used i5 4690. Its a lot better and really worth it!

I assumed you meant Computer Aided Design, but you meant Canadian currency. I'd suggest getting a 4690 or 1231-v3 and a 1060/480.

I looked up a few comparasions, and as you can see here 

 the 4690 is only 10% faster in most games, and to be frank i dont think that warrants the extra 50-80$ CAD that they cost. I think im just gonna stick with the 4460.

Gigabyte makes very good motherboards. Can you get Asrock?

get the rx470, better value and supporting amd helps with competition (so nvidia doesnt scam us with 1200$ gpus)

They make good GPU's as well. If we're talking GPU's, I'd take Gigabyte over Asus since I've had issues RMA-ing GPU's, but not motherboards.

ASUS, MSI, EVGA, and PNY/Palit make better cooled cards with more reliable, higher quality components. There's a reason Gigabyte is usually near the bottom of the price heap.
