To the Moderators, this topic is about a problem with a optical drive and possible solutions, if its in the wrong part of the forum please move it, and if it can't have links block it. Thanks.

Hi everyone, my name is Francisco and this is my first message.

I have a problem, in a computer I'm going to work tomorrow, the windows is not showing the optical drive, like on the windows explorer.

The drive is good, I tested it in to computers as internal(through sata) and as external (sata2usb adapter) and it works.

I found this possible solution:

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33_818.jpg, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Configure a device.‌ 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b_48.jpg If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Does anyone has other ideas, of possible solutions?

Thanks for the time.

Thanks xTheOlahx and ROYSTURRR,

I did this and it solved the issue.

Windows 7 or Windows Vista

  1. Click Start
    VistaStartButton.jpg
, and then click All Programs.
  2. Click Accessories, and then click Run.
  3. Type regedit, and then click OK.
    SecurityShield.jpg
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.
  4. In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  5. In the right pane, click UpperFilters.

  6. Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters registry entry. To do this, go to step 8.
  7. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  8. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  9. In the right pane, click LowerFilters.

Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, unfortunately this content cannot help you any further. Go to the "Next Steps" [/url=http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116#nextsteps] section for information about how you can find more solutions or more help on the Microsoft Web site.
  10. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
  11. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  12. Exit Registry Editor.
  13. Restart the computer.
