hi there . so for a few months i have had abrupt shut downs while playing game.I would only use my computer to game (dota2) at max settings and surf the net on a daily basis. i have noticed that the casing of my pc would be very hot when gaming and would also always be the case when theres abrupt shut downs.

so recently while gaming the same thing happened again.... and what worst is when booting up, what the monitor showed up was as if theres no graphics card installed when there is. so i just waited and restarted and it goes back to normal. is this a symptom of my graphics card failing due to over heating.

and ok next point before the above incident i thought its overheating that causes the shut downs and i bought a few cans of compressed air to clean the interior of my pc by blowing away the dust.so i thought it isnt the dust that causes all of these.

so i came across speedfan on the internet and its really very good in helping me regulate my temperature. for example when im gaming my cpu fan speed would be max (3000+- rpm) and when im just surfing the net 40%(+-) however i am unable to get control of fan speed to my GPU and would like someone to teach me as i think that the above incident is caused by overheating of the graphics card causing it to turn off to save the computer.

my question:1) is it ideal for me to turn on my cpu fan on max speed when im gaming.

2)are any of my parts starting to fail as my pc is about 2 and a half years to 3 years old.

my pc specs are as follow:

intel core i5 4570 @3.20ghz

nvidia gtx 650 ti boost

64 operating system

4 gb ram

if u would like to know more kindly let me know as i do not know what parts to list down. any help is greatly appreciated thank you.:)

Turn your game settings down, you are pushing your GPU too hard most likely. See if that helps. Start from the lowest settings, play a full round of Dota and check temps, if it's alright bump up to medium settings, play a full round and check temps. Etc..

Do you have clean Power coming to your Pc? Is there any interruptions with the power going to your pc?

I agree with NinJake here, you're pushing your GPU too hard for it to cool itself probably, probably the result of either poor GPU design, or poor ventilation inside your computer. Do as he said and try running your games at the lowest possible settings, after playing for about an hour or so check your temps, if your temps are under 65C then bump up your settings a to medium, and repeat again. Once you crash again bump back down to the last settings you were using.

Also; if you can, try getting some more fans to install inside of your case, do not stack fans. If you're already using all of your fan vents it may be worth investing in more powerful fans that can push more air.

My procrastination is the bane of my existence.

I make games and stuff in my spare time.

If i may believe speedfan it would apear you only have cpu fan but no in or outtake fans(plugged in)an thus most likely not enough airflow, also the termal paste may have dried up from your cpu and that might cause termal problems and random shut downs
