They're pretty much the same besides the cost. Decide what graphics card you want and then take whichever sync fits with that, don't decide based on G-Sync or FreeSync first.

I'd say G-Sync because the new AMD GPU is rumored to be multi-GPU and we all know how much support multi-gpu support gets nowadays. I say this because the top of the line AMD card that can use the capabilities of FreeSync isn't as great as what the new 10 series that Nvidia has... I hope I don't sound like an idiot here. im new... dont hurt me.

Why either? Why not a non-G-sync or Freesync?

I get a lot of tearing on my current monitor because I go quality>performance for single player games so I don't max out frame rate.

Both card mentioned should get at least 40-50fps maxed out settings on most game even the most intensive games so I would really bother that much but still Freesync is cheaper

I have heard that Freesync is the better technology(...?) and the cost is way below G-sync

If you play casual/slightly old games (I.E. cs:go, the old dead space games, Call of Duties, etc. etc.) where you can hit high frames easily i would just go for freesync w/ a nice amd card honestly

Shipping sucks

RX 480 is better at DX12 and Vulcan. I'd like to keep using it for a while. I've just never used AMD Gaming Evolved and some people say it's shit.

AMD isnt shit but I dislike AMD's Raptr software and honestly by the time DX12 and Vulkan become widely supported where it would matter Nvidia would have released Volta which is supposed to support async compute and will destroy current gen gpu's.

The raptr software is actually dead. It is not even in the installer package anymore. Just as a side note. Still I like my amd Freesync setup a lot. Especially considering price to performance when you factor in gpu and monitor.

GPU price difference between the 1060 and the 480 are negligible at best. Freesync and gsync are similar. An there is no real benefit of one over the other. I might be in the minority but one of the reasons I like Nvidia is that they have a software package that can handle drivers easily and Hassel free as compared to amd and the puke that is raptr. Bleh

Dude I hear ya. All I say (and that is true) is that a gpu and monitor combo for adaptive refresh rates is cheaper from amd. everything else (in my book) is mostly preference while the question about additional software .... Well I guess Nvidia wins for the most part, although personally I don't care. I just want working drivers, done. ?

Deciding between GTX 1060 and RX 480 I would go with the RX 480 but I've never used AMD's equivalent to Geforce Experience and I've heard that it was worse.

Crimson is good, imo more straigt forward that geforce experience

Gsync.

It's much safer bet to plan with nvidia cards for the future. Plus I think freesync is using more limited range based on the monitors. Often they come working from 48 Hz which is just way too high for the minimum imho. Gsync will work with anything you throw at it.

If your in the price range/budget of a RX480 and needs a screen to match its probably the combo to go..as the G-sync monitors are more costly, personally i see little freesync stuff in Norway and not as much at the higher end of the spectrum so i had to go G-sync monitor and Nvidia card.. But i would love to try AMD in the future. probably not going to happen soon tho :(
