So I am going to buy a 600W 80+ Silver PSU, and I was wondering if all 80+ certified PSUs are safe and trustworthy, generally speaking. If you're wondering what it is, it is the Sky Digital PS4-600F. (I'm looking to buy this because pc parts in Korea are really overpriced and most brands like EVGA and Corsair cost over $100, regardless of what model)

No. The 80+ ratings are an energy efficiency rating, nothing to do with the quality of the psu or the components inside.

Use this thread and go for a tier 3, or tier 4 at the lowest.

Just becouse its 80+ doesn't mean it has quality parts as far as I'm aware. It just means it doesn't throw away to much unused power before it blows up ?

Main system:

i7 6700k @4.8ghz 1.45v

ROG Maximus Hero VIII

Gigabyte G1 980ti Sli @1500 ghz

Samsung 950 pro 512gb

16gb G.Skill Ripjawz V @3400mhz

Corsair H115i 280mm AIO

Corsair 400c Case

Corsair RM1000i

Backup/Older/Toys:

Intel i3 6100 @4.6ghz 1.52v

Asrock B150M Pro4/Hyper

Intel 750 series 400gb

Radeon Rx 470 XFX

Thermaltake Water 3.0 360mm AIO

inWin 303 case

AMD Phenom II x4 940 @3.9ghz 1.65v

Gigabyte 780g mobo

Corsair H100 240mm AIO

Corsair Dominiator 8gb DDR2 @1066

Evga GTX 750ti FTW @1450mhz

Thermaltake Matrix case (modded)

As others have said, it only shows how efficient the PSU is at converting power. It doesn't tell you anything about the quality of components, voltage regulation, surge protection, ripple suppression and so on. In fact, some PSU manufacturers will cut corners on other parts in order to improve the 80+ rating while keeping the cost the same. It's a tactic that can take advantage of people misunderstanding what 80+ ratings are.

For PSUs, you should always check reviews for that specific model (not user reviews, professional reviews that can actually test them). If you can't find any reviews, I'd generally advise avoiding the PSU due to a lack of information.

We have topics pinned on the PSU/Chassis subforum that would super help you out.

Also your suggested PSU is an unknown so I'd not buy it. What are the specs of the system you're powering and what part of the world are you located in?

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Interestingly enough, it may not be a bad unit. The Sky Digital Power Station 4 PS4-600F is the same platform as the Cooler Master GM / GX II Storm Edition and Chieftec A90.

Can you provide any links to the store you are buying from? As well as your specs?

I'll be using a gtx 1070, 16gb ddr4 ram, an aio liquid cooler (not sure which one yet), a 128gb boot ssd, 2tb of hard drive space, and an i5 6600k. I live in Korea. I actually found a Corsair CX600 for the same price, but it's a 80+ Bronze certified. Will the difference be minimal from silver to bronze?

The CX600 isn't a super great PSU and I'd find something better for a GTX 1070. The difference from an efficiency standpoint, again, can be explained by the link in my signature (also pinned on this subforum). It's minimal.

That said, see if you can find something a little more well-known.
