Resolving Context Menu Delay Problem!

To anyone reading this I just thought that I would point out a problem I had with the right-click context menu on the desktop and how I went about resolving it.

 

 

The problem I had is as follows:

 

 

This problem existed on my sister's Windows 8 Laptop.

 

 

She had recently updated her laptop to Windows 8.1 and all seemed fine (and everything was basically fine, no performance issues, etc.). However just like every other day, prior to updating to Windows 8.1, she would right-click on the desktop to get access to the context menu for options like changing the desktop wallpaper, display settings, etc. and that operated fine with no delay up until installing Windows 8.1

 

 

After the installation we noticed that the context menu would take 15 seconds exactly and we found it quite difficult to solve the problem. We searched all over the internet for the solution and came across a little utility called "ShellExView" a Shell Extensions Manager. This utility allowed myself to look through all of the entries for the various context menus and then I decided that I would disable all of the non-Microsoft entries and through the process of elimination, find the culprit that was causing the problem.

 

 

As it turns out it was actually the fact that her dedicated NVIDIA GPU drivers weren't installed (it seemed as though Windows 8.1 had deleted them, if that's at all possible) that was causing the desktop context menu delay.

 

 

After going through the Device Manager and updating the standard driver that was listed to the latest NVIDIA driver the context menu delay was fixed and was back to how it operated before with no delay.

 

 

I hope this troubleshooting information is helpful to anyone else with a similar problem, no matter what version of Windows you're running, and it should eliminate hours of researching and solve this annoying problem quickly.
