Recommendation: MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X vs EVGA 1070 Gaming Hybrid

corkey723

Like the title states, looking for a recommendation on which one of these to buy.  Both are at the same price currently.  I know the EVGA card has only one 8 pin power and a little lower TDP than the MSI card, but i figure the water cooler would give it more headroom for overclocking.   Let me know your opinions and hopefully someone has experience with these to give more insight.  Thanks all!

I have a 1070 Hybrid and the only benefits I see with it is much lower temperatures compared to the ACX cooler they use and a slightly quieter setup. Overclocking is more or less the same vs. the ACX cooler

If they are the same price, check other specs like display outputs. You don't have to worry about looks or current cooling since you plan to water-cool.

Hope this helps...

Read the post again. Hybrid cards are cards with an AIO-type cooling solution. Only one of the cards has a watercooler.

I'd go Hybrid

But you said temps are lower..... So shouldn't you be able to push farther?

If you have the money, I'd go EVGA

NO, because you hit other limits on 10 series cards before temps cause throttling, ALL 10 SERIES cards clock pretty much the same, the different coolers just determine what final temps and noise levels you will end up with.

Can't you push the voltage though? What other limits are there?

from what i've seen, the voltage limits are usually what you hit, Jays2Centz did a video on the Hybrid 1080 and his "final thoughts" included that "it boosted up to the same range as all the other 1080's, it just does it at MUCH MUCH lower temperatures".

Sounds like I might just go with the EVGA Hybrid 1070 card then. In the process of building a new rig so just trying to get everything bought.  I will be running a Corsair H100i V2 on the i6600.
I wasnt sure If I would see more gains on the MSI card being it has 2 8-pin connectors vs the EVGA's 1 8-pin.
The price comes out AR to $379.99 USD for the MSI Gaming X and $389.99 USD for the EVGA Hybrid.  Seems like the best deal I have found on these so far other than the Jet.com specials, and I"m still not sure how much I trust them.

Figure with the Black Friday prices I am getting some decent deals right now, so why not.  Need to replace my 6 yr old custom PC (even though it still runs great)
