Currently using a hd 7950, and looking towards updating the bios to 015.042.000.003.000000, and was wondering how to do it?

NOTE: My bios #1 does not have any current bios to it, so im not sure how I'm suppose to turn on my pc with it (just a black screen if i use that bios), than install vbios, (or do we just switch the bios from #2 to #1 right before we load the vbios/image and than install it? )

Thanks.

i know, i googled it, but i was also confused if having no bios in ur #1 bios position would change anything (as your gpu cant output to it's monitor without one)

Nevermind, found another thread that tells what to do for this scenario.

I broke a 5850 bios.

Rendering it without one.

Think of it like yours.. booting from vbios1 equals nothing.

I boot from onboard gfx.

Open cmd window for atiflash.exe

My 5850 is installed, but i booted from onboard.

(If you have a SLI/Crossfire board without onboard,...with multiple slots - you can use a different primary and the bricked as secondary)

Wh3n I list adapters, my 5850 shows up (adapter 2), if it didn't it's likely broken beyond fixing it,...IDK maybe some googling can help here but I never had this problem. So I force the downloaded bios to adapter 2 with some commands using atiflash.

Success, 5850 works again.

So if you boot using vbios 2

Go to cmd, ati flash...

Then you switch the switch to vbios 1 physically... hit the switch on the spine to the other one.

Nothing will happen visually, but the card will then update that bios when you input the command to do so. Ive done this multiple times with my HD7950 dualbios card as well, #2 was testing different ones. If it ever broke, I boot #1, Switch, Re-Flash #2.

Flash as normal specifically choosing whatever bios you have to the vbios1.. its applied to vbios1 now after you hit the switch.

Reboot. Vbios1 should now be bootable and working.

If not, you can Boot #1 and maybe start again with a different vbios (many manufacturers to choose from usually that suit)

Ie: Always check bios compatability by googling forums and relative similar postings from others...

If your somewhat scared.. then outright do not touch it. You can brick shit if you screw up.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
