New build, using thermaltake water 3.0 360 riing rgb edition (tri radiator) and asus hero vii alpha. I am having some really erratic cpu tempatures while under like little to no load it will idle around 20-23c then any kind of load maybe 20% from steam doing background updates will cause it to shoot up to 73 then 30 then 60 then up and down over and over again. I have tried clear cmos reseating the heatsink (didn't replace the thermal paste already on it) don't know what is wrong but it is fairly annoying especially when the fans rev up and down. case temps seem fine mobo temp seems fine nothing erratic nothing above 45c and i believe that is the south board sensor that sits next to the gpu. I have a gtx 1080 asus strix under full load + 76MHz overclock @2025MHz will sit at around 55c

Using msi afterburner for cpu temps, is this a faulty sensor on the board? I don't know how to check for sensor failure and if it is can I return the board for that reason? I am slightly worried about overheating even though I really shouldn't have any issues under a stress test it was reporting 77c steadily under 100% load (which does seem quite high its only @4.62) my i5-4670k with coolermasters 812 air cooler kept it under 65c @ max load
