Thread is linked below but here is the quick run through.

I said Biostar was in the GPU market. I was basically called an idiot because they make a graphics card...not the actual GPU.

I never said they made a GPU. I said they joined the GPU market by selling one.

Then I was told they were selling a graphics card, not the actual GPU.

Well the box clearly states "GTX 1060" which is the GPU. Selling and advertising are both words that literally define "market". Am I wrong?

Edit: Mods removed link lol. It's not hard to find in the GPU section though.

I'm not sure if you're right or wrong but let me put it this way. Currently, there are only 2 main GPU manufacturers out there, NVIDIA and AMD. They make "Reference" graphics cards which usually feature the single-fan blower style coolers. Then, there are aftermarket manufacturers such as Gigabyte, MSI, ASUS, ZOTAC, EVGA, Palit, LeadTek, so on and so forth who take the GPU  and create a custom PCB around it to suit their custom-made coolers.
Take note:
GPU = The processing die itself
Graphics Card = The entire card which contains all the electronic components on a PCB which has a cooler mounted on top of it.

Although I couldn't answer your question if you're right or wrong, I hope this clears some confusion. :)

Why discuss this in a seperate thread?

Take it up with the person who postet it in your thread.

It's a completely different topic.

I'm asking if I'm right or wrong, sir.

Haha I know all that but thank you.

We're fighting over the definition of "market" even though I linked it. :D

But going to bed now haha. Sorry for extra thread guys.

Come to think of it after I posted the definition of GPU and graphics card, I think the guy you were arguing is kinda right and you're kinda wrong. If both of you were speaking informally then he would be just a dumbass. But if it were something formal, then the definitions ought to be perfect otherwise the other party will get the wrong idea. :)

Well formal and informal are well and good but I can't help what idea he gets. I just go by the legitimate definitions.

If some guy goes and shoots 10 hookers, then blows up a school...is it my fault he got that idea?

Ah shit, really going to bed now. I can't do nerd talk.

I agree with you, but very few people refer to graphics cards as "GPU". They usually call them "cards" or "graphics cards" or by their names. Whatever it is, just add brackets to explain just a little further so there's no confusion and everyone can be all nice and friendly as that's what the LTT Forums are known for. :D

Don't worry, I still love you... You know what you mean and that is all that counts... <3

I'm going to put a link to my PC specs which actually aren't my PC specs and I cry myself to sleep everyday so I can have these PC specs but I can't afford these PC specs so PC specs PC specs PC specs PC specs PC specs PC specs.

I usually say GPU and people know what I'm talking about, therefore I think your probably right but then again, I might be wrong.

If someone is making such a big deal over the difference between a GPU and a video card when they damn well know what you meant, chances are they are an elitist prick that gets off by telling people they're wrong.

Well my Toyota Aygo was bought from Toyota and by all definition they manufactured the car, despite it being exactly the same as a Peugeot 108/Citroen C1 but with slightly different bodywork.

My GTX 970 came in an asus box, has asus logos on it and all support is provided by asus. So in my mind, it's made by Asus.

It does annoy me too when people are that pedantic, but then I just feel sorry for them - that this is how they get fulfilment in their lives.
